Joe Aldaz: President, STARS Girls Elite Head Coach, STARS 16s Boys Head Coach,
                     Rocky Mountain Championships Tournament Director
Joe is the President and founder of the Colorado Springs STARS B-BALL Academy and brings 23 years of coaching and athletic administration experience to the program. Joe founded the STARS program in January 2004 and launched the inaugural season of the STARS Select Team Program in March 2004 with two successful girls' high school select teams. A retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel, his passion is to develop a premier youth basketball organization for the Colorado Springs metro area and the state of Colorado. He recognizes the scarce opportunities for high-caliber Colorado Springs basketball players to compete at the national tournament level. This lack of opportunity places our players at a significant disadvantage when competing for collegiate athletic scholarships. To that end, Joe founded the Colorado Springs STARS B-BALL Academy to make a difference in the lives of our young athletes by developing sound fundamental skills in a college-prep environment and increase their opportunities to play at the college level. Since the inception of the STARS program, 82% of his athletes have received college athletic scholarships in addition to many of his athletes receiving prestigious academic scholarships. Additionally, the Shooting STARS Basketball Enrichment Program has been developed to provide basketball training opportunities for middle school to high school athletes.

Joe has coached college, military, high school, middle school and club team basketball. He has coached over 25 NCAA Division I athletes, served as the head coach for seven programs and was a former head coach of the Air Force Academy Prep School women's team. Under his leadership, players have earned 5 Most Valuable Player honors, over 20 All-Tournament Team selections, over 30 All-Conference Team Selections, 2 national club basketball championships, 24 tournament championships, a 1,000 point career high school scorer, a 2006 Denver Nuggets/ Qwest Leadership Challenge Award recipient, and the 2003 Gold Crown Foundation 8th Grade Girls' Student Athlete of the Year honor. Joe also has over four years of athletic administration experience as the former Director of Athletics at the Air Force Academy Prep School . He serves as the Gold Crown Foundation Southern Colorado Basketball Division Coordinator and is the USO (United Service Organizations) Director for the Rocky Mountain Region. He also has served as the President and CEO of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and serves on the Board of Directors for the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and is the President of the Rocky Mountain USO Advisory Council. Jake Helsham: STARS Girls Selects Assistant Coach, Shooting STARS Enrichment Program InstructorJake brings 9 years of coaching experience to the STAR program, having coached in Arizona, Hawaii, and Germany. He was a member of the American Samoa Basketball "Gold Medalist" team, representing American Samoa at the 1983 South Pacific Games. Jake played at American Samoa Community College and played on several Air Force base teams capturing a base championship at Kwang Ju, Korea. Jake also brings 3 years of NCAA recruiting expertise through his current position at the US Air Force Academy.

Maurice Jones: Vice President, Director, Girls' Basketball Operations, STARS Girls Selects Head CoachMaurice Jones has over 10 years of coaching experience. Maurice brings high-energy to our program and is the head coach of the STARS Selects Girls' Team and Director, Shooting STARS Basketball Enrichment Program. He has been an assistant coach at various levels with the STARS founder, Joe Aldaz. Maurice has served as an assistant coach at the Air Force Academy Prep School and as an Assistant Head Girls Basketball Coach at Pine Creek High School . Maurice is a non-commissioned officer in the United States Air Force with the rank of Technical Sergeant.

Addie Yestness: STARS Girls Selects Assistant CoachAddie begins her first season with the STARS. She is a 2007 graduate of the University of Northern Colorado (UNC) and collegiate scholarship athlete for the UNC women's softball team. She received a Bachelor of Science in Sport and Exercise Science with a Coaching minor and is currently an Assistant Girls Basketball Coach at Pine Creek High School. She also served as an Assistant Coach for the Pine Creek Girls Softball Team.

Larry Mangino: STARS 16s Boys Head CoachLarry is set to start his first season with the STARS. He brings a wealth of basketball knowledge to the STARS Select Team Program. Innovative and successful, Mangino developed the Skills for Life program at Clark to help athletes prepare for their post-graduate careers. He also helped George Washington to the National Invitation Tournament in 1990-91. He was also instrumental in the success of the Air Force Falcons program over seven seasons leading the team to NCAA tournament appearances in 2004 and 2006 and a 26-9 record and #1 seed in the National Invitation Tournament in 2007.

He was a three-year basketball letter winner at Montclair State and helped the team to the 1981 regional championship. Mangino began his coaching career at Montclair as a graduate assistant in 1984 after his playing career ended. He was an assistant and at Yale from 1984-86 and George Washington from 1986-91. In addition to his seven years of experience as an assistant coach, Mangino has nine years of collegiate experience as a head coach with stints at Clark University from 1991-96 and Ferrum College from 1996-2000.

Mangino has worked as a clinician at several major basketball camps, including the Boston Celtics rookie and free agent camp. He's also been active in community affairs throughout his career, including the Big Brother program.

Mangino is a 1983 graduate of Montclair State in New Jersey where he earned his bachelor's degree in physical education. He later earned his master's degree in human development from George Washington in 1996.

Currently, Larry is an assistant coach with the Denver Nuggets.

Charmas Lee: STARS Speed, Strength & Agility CoachCharmas Lee brings over 20 years of experience to the fitness arena. His passion for fitness led him to establish Building Better Bodies, a private business which focuses on corporate fitness, athletic teams and personal training services for private clients.

Charmas will provide specialized speed and agility training for the STARS teams, making the Colorado Springs STARS unlike any other youth basketball organization in the state of Colorado . He specializes in individual and group exercise prescriptions for adults and youth wishing to improve their fitness levels, and the design of sport specific training for professional and amateur athletes. Charmas also works with physician referred and physical therapy referred clients. Programs include weight loss, weight management, nutritional recommendations, core stability, and strength and conditioning for peak performance.

Charmas has been the physical conditioning specialist at the United States Air Force Academy Preparatory School, and has been a Health and Fitness Instructor at the United States Air force Academy Fitness and Sports Center located in Colorado Springs , Colorado .

Charmas is also the founder and head coach of Speed Track and Field, a national caliber USA Track and Field Junior Olympic youth developmental program, located in Colorado Springs Colorado. Coach Lee brings 16 years of practical experience to the track arena and continues to coach at the middle school and high school level as well.

Charmas is certified through the American College of Sports Medicine and stays on the cutting edge by attending clinics, workshops and seminars hosted by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and USA Track and Field. He is a contributing author to "The Power of Champions" a book dedicated to helping readers find their absolute physical best. He is also a graduate of the prestigious, Center for Creative Leadership, Community Leadership Program.
